Dear Patients and Families:

After more than 53 years of practicing ophthalmology it has become time to close my Rockville office and leave the the practice that I have always loved. My last day in the office seeing patients will be January 11, 2023.

Unlike other pediatric ophthalmology offices, we have never excluded patients as they enter teen years and beyond. In fact, I have followed many patients for several decades, from infancy to college, adulthood and parenthood. We have patients that have entered a multitude of professions and employment situations. Patients that have become parents bring us their children. Patients with multiple disabilities have found comfort with our office setting and devoted assistants. We have enjoyed the many relationships that have developed as we watched our patients grow and mature. We have shared good times and sad events.

Understanding all this, we will make every effort to smooth the transition and assist you in establishing continuity of care. My staff is currently available to place contact lens orders, schedule appointments, and provide you with medical records as needed.

For many patients a recent contact lens or eyeglass prescription provided to you at your last visit will suffice as records for a new eye doctor. For others requesting copies of medical records, there will be a copying fee for office pick up. A mailing fee will be added if forwarding records to you or another office is requested. If you wish to have records sent to another office please fill out the enclosed HIPPA required record transfer authorization form and return it to us. Record pick up or transfer from our office will be possible until January 13, 2023.

After the end of January 2023 records will be transferred to and stored at the offices of “Eye Doctors of Washington” (EDOW). This highly esteemed group of ophthalmologists has practitioners in many speciality areas of ophthalmology. For further information, to schedule an appointment, or request records, EDOW can be reached at www.edow.com and 301-281-4085. Since they schedule months in advance we suggest contacting them as soon as possible. They will not have access to records until late January.

Wishing you good health and great happiness in the future,

Marshall P. Keys M.D. FAAO, FAAP
